Effect of Ashwashila Capsule (An Ayurvedic Preparation of Patanjali Ayurved Limited) In Patients with Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus [NIDDM]

ABSTRACT

This prelimnary clinical study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Ashwashila Capsule, an Ayurvedic preparation containing 200 mg. (each) fine extracts of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Shilajit (Asphaltum punjabianum) in 32 subjects with early diagnosed type-II diabetes (NIDDM) at the Department of Medical Science in Yog and Ayurved, Divya Yog Mandir Trust, Patanjali yog Peeth, Haridwar. At the onset of treatment baseline assessment was taken following General symptomatic examination, Average Fasting Blood sugar and lipid profile. The patients were instructed to take two capsules of Ashwashila twice a day for four weeks. At the end of the therapy period, it was found that the drug had considerably reduced symptoms related to diabetes, average fasting blood sugar and lipid profile.
